Partnering to End Extreme Poverty: How the Public and Private Sector Can Work Together for a Better WorldChristian Steiner, CEO of Helvetas USA
9am PT / 12pm ET
Eradicating global poverty is first and foremost among the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The U.N. recognizes that advancing human rights by fostering financial wellbeing in our communities is a crucial part of sustainable development and the foundation from which the other SDGs can be achieved. Meeting these global challenges takes innovative ideas and collaboration among conscious leaders from both the nonprofit and private sectors.
From connecting communities with clean water and healthy, affordable food to ensuring access to education and income-generating opportunities, Helvetas work is underpinned by the SDGs. At this virtual gathering, Christian Steiner, CEO of Helvetas USA, will illustrate how nonprofits like Helvetas join with the private sector to help advance the SDGs and why business support is so critical, in addition to providing examples of successful collaborative projects that are creating positive impacts locally and globally.
Christian Steiner assumed the role of CEO of Helvetas USA in August 2018. Driven by his passion for lifting the world’s poorest people up and out of poverty, over the last 20 years he has held executive management positions in development cooperation in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mozambique, Kyrgyzstan and Madagascar. Christian has led teams in the design and management of multi-stakeholder programs funded by USAID, EuropeAid, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and the Swiss Development Cooperation, as well as many private foundations and corporations. A native German speaker, Christian is also fluent in Spanish, French, Portuguese and English. He received his B. Eng. from Bern University of Applied Sciences (BUAS), School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences, and his Executive MBA from University of Barcelona (UB), Barna Business School. Christian spends his free time exploring California’s beaches and America’s national parks with his wife and two teenage daughters.
